Our goal as a social enterprise bakery is to hire semi-retired and retired nurses and social workers as well as other clinicians, known as Cake Managers. The Cake Managers will deliver small pound cakes to the elderly with chronic illnesses who live alone (in the Chicagoland area) and provide Company and Cake. The elders will be referred from social or medical agencies as well as from individuals who will purchase a small pound cake at a discounted rate. Our Cake Managers will do a wellness visit and submit a report to the referral source. The elders will benefit from a social visit, health education and will enjoy a delicious piece of cake! We understand the nutritional needs of people with chronic illnesses. We hope to not only hire those who need to supplement their income by doing something fulfilling and fun but to provide some companionship to those who would otherwise be isolated in their homes due to sickness.
